Pearn & Procter were commissioned by Devon & Cornwall Housing Association to design 10 local needs dwellings, consisting of 4 one bedroom flats, 3 two bedroom and 3 3 bedroom houses.

It had been established that there was a need for new housing for local people for some time, and a large allotment had been mooted as a possible site for the new properties, while still allowing a sizeable portion of the site to be available as allotments.

The new dwellings have integrated the best features of the existing traditional cottages on nearby Church Town Road, without being a matching stereotype or copy. They also follow 'Secured by Design' principles, with the size of the properties dictated by the Housing Corporation and the Housing Association.
