Refurbishment of Public Toilet Building, Guildhall Square, Tavistock, Devon

Unpleasant, unattractive and leaking, the public toilets in the centre of Tavistock's Victorian conservation area were nobody's friend. Pearn & Procter were commissioned to provide full architectural services and analysed the existing facilities through various options. The scheme was presented to the Councillors and to public consultation and the continental style option was adopted.

A "direct access" facility was provided incorporating innovative details to maximise natural light yet combining traditional construction techniques to reflect the building's setting. Robust detailing and appropriate selection of fixtures and fitings were included to maximise life span and minimise ongoing maintenance costs.
